Our Story

Kalaavi was born in the land that gave Kalamkari to the world.

For three thousand years, in the towns of the Krishna delta, artisans drew stories onto cloth with a bamboo pen and the colours of the earth — indigo, madder, myrobalan, iron. The Telugu called it vraata pani, “writing-work,” because Kalamkari was never mere decoration. It was a story you could wear.

But for too long those stories lived only on temple hangings and festival sarees. Kalaavi sets them free — onto the clothes a woman actually lives in. Modern in cut, ancient in spirit. Rooted, not costume.

Kalā means art. Kalaavi is she who carries it.

Built in Vijayawada, in the Kalamkari heartland

We are built in Vijayawada, close to Pedana, Machilipatnam and Srikalahasti — the towns where Kalamkari has been practised for centuries. Proximity to the craft isn’t a marketing line; it’s a responsibility, and it’s how we can honestly tell a print from a painting.
